Welcome back, Bill. I got an MP3 player in March and one of the first things I did was go to Cyndi's List and find her Podcast category. I downloaded all your podcasts (10 at that point), and am so glad you are continuing with more! I really enjoy your tips; they are very helpful.

On the subject of file backup, sharing and storage ...

Online backup is becoming common these days. It is estimated that 70-75% of all PC's will be connected to online backup services with in the next decade.

Thousands of online backup companies exist, from one guy operating in his apartment to fortune 500 companies.

Choosing the best online backup company will be very confusing and difficult. One website I find very helpful in making a decision to pick an online backup company is:

http://www.BackupReview.info

This site lists more than 400 online backup companies in its directory and ranks the top 25 on a monthly basis.

I did not have any trouble installing the Google Toolbar in IE 7 on two PCs. One is running XP Home, the other XP Pro. I've also installed it successfully on Firefox in both OSes.

Another option is to use a social bookmarking system such as Diigo (www.diigo.com). Not only are your bookmarks saved online making it easier to access and share with others, but they also cache each page you bookmark so even if the site later disappears, you still have the information you found interesting.

Here's a link to several articles I've written about using Diigo for genealogy research - http://www.diigo.com/user/moultriecreek/familymatters+diigo

Hi Bill. In browsing this episode, I am very interested in this article about items stolen and being auctioned on eBay. About 5 months ago I found an item for sale on another auction site which was a letter signed by Abraham Lincoln pardoning my 5Gr Grandfather for desertion. I could not get information about the seller through the website and had no idea that this theft had occurred. I wondered why an original Civil War document would be for sale--and going for $4300 at the time. I transcribed every bit of the letter and made copies of my screen so that I would have the whole document. Do you know what if anything can be done?

[...] Lisa was kind enough to point her listeners over to the GTP to learn more about Google Alerts. As Lisa mentioned on the show, you can listen to Episode 8, then check out the updated information I have posted at: http://genealogytechpodcast.com/2007/02/14/more-on-google-alerts/ [...]
