Korean Lunar New Year
Here’s an interesting post on Eva McKinnon’s blog that sheds a little light on Korean ancestry and culture. Eva is Canadian and moved to Korea to teach English for a year. Eva spends Korean New Year’s Day with a local family, she explains:
“Korean society is paternal. Upon entering the home, I was handed this mind blowing genealogy record, stretching thousands of years. Most Koreans have records of their clan’s ancestry, yet only the male’s history is recorded…”
Eva goes on to say that after lunch she and her hosts drove to the grave of a relative and had a picnic. You can read more on her blog located here.
