Tracing Your Own Family Not Challenging Enough?
Monday, February 12th, 2007I found this old BBC article (13 June 2005) that I thought was interesting.
There is (or at least was) a group of genealogists in the UK who regularly joined forces to research a randomly chosen name from the 1881 UK census.
The challenge is to find out as much as the group can over a 4-week period, and as the printing of the article they have been very successful. One of the reasons the group takes on the challenge is because their own research has hit a brick wall.
I imagine that this type of exercise is useful in many ways since it may expose you to records, repositories or research techniques you haven’t used before.
Or, it could be just as simple as the enjoyment of taking up a genealogical challenge…
Update: I checked the group listed in the article - the Rootschat forum is still going and can be found at www.rootschat.com. The site is worth checking out.
