A Commoner Heir to the Royal Throne?

Friday, February 9th, 2007

You may recall a short while back that there was a search on for additional heirs to the British Royal Throne. (You can find more information on Dick Eastman’s blog here.) The search was organized by the English Heritage organization to commemorate the opening of a new visitor center at the Battle Abbey and Battlefield in Hastings. Additional information of the Battle of Hastings can be found here.

Well it appears that out of 500 respondents worldwide, at least two men from the UK may well be eligible to call themselves royalty.

An article on the BBC News Web site says that Mr. Albert Turnbull from Gateshead, and Mr. Mark Golledge of Berkshire, have submitted family trees that contain the required genealogical documentation that connects them to either King Harold, Edward the Confessor, Edgar the Aetheling or Alfred the Great.

You can find the article here.
